The St. Thomas Aquinas College Women's Triathlon team closed its 2021 season on Saturday afternoon at the East Regional Qualifier, which was held at Smith Mountain Lake State Park in Huddleston, Virginia.
The race was comprised of 102 Division I and Division II female triathletes competing as a team. In the biking and running events of this race, competitors must complete a two loop course. If you are passed on the second loop by the lead triathlete, you are immediately pulled from the course and your day ends.
Unfortunately, one Spartan faced a lap out situation, while another had her day ended due to an equipment failure (flat tire) on her bike. However, despite the setbacks, STAC triathletes Samantha Biss and Phoebe Hemmerling both finished the race and represented the college very well in only their second and third triathlon events, respectively.
