Freshmen Lead The Way At Giant Acorn Triathlon

Spotsylvania, Va. - Fighting tough conditions caused by Tropical Storm Ophelia, the St. Thomas Aquinas College Women's Triathlon team returned to action Sunday at the Giant Acorn event, held inside of Lake Anna State Park.

The Spartans were led on the day by their two freshmen; Tylor Brino-Dean and Chanelle Russell, who continue to grow and learn with each collegiate race. Junior captain Hanna Jung was unable to compete due to injury, but is hopeful to return to action next week.

NCAA Triathlon can be fast paced in any conditions, even slick ones. There were a few bike crashes on the road, but Brino-Dean and Russell were able to navigate the course cleanly.

STAC worked hard, overcame some minor mishaps, and ultimately got some good experience with the technical aspects of triathlon that will help the maroon and gold, as they have a quick turnaround with another race next weekend in Maryland.

St. Thomas Aquinas heads to the Waterman's Sprint Triathlon on Sunday, October 1 in Rock Hall, Maryland.
