STAC Women's Volleyball Falls in Conference Opener to Roberts Wesleyan, 3-0

Rochester, N.Y. - Embarking on its first long bus trip of season, the St. Thomas Aquinas College Women's Volleyball team opened the ECC-portion of their 2023 schedule, facing off with Roberts Wesleyan University on Saturday at the Voller Athletic Center in Western New York. The host Redhawks put together a 3-0 straight sets victory over the Spartans. 

STAC falls to 2-5 overall and 0-1 in the ECC, while Roberts Wesleyan improves to 4-6 and 1-0.

HOW IT HAPPENED

The maroon and gold posted 20 team kills in three sets, bowing to Roberts Wesleyan, 3-0.

Roberts Wesleyan took the first two sets in convincing fashion (25-9 & 25-14), however the Spartans battled back to tie the third set at 21-21.  Unfortunately, a series of attack errors, combined with Redhawks kills pushed the hosts through 25-22 to clinch the match.

Jaizahir Marrero-George recorded 15 kills on the afternoon, while also picking up 3 blocks (1 solo, 2 assisted). Lorielys Ruiz, Natassia Romanoff and Elizabeth Salmon also registered two blocks apiece. Meanwhile, Aurivette Santos Bonilla (15), Lea Venghaus (13) and Dahiana Garcia Atuesta (10) defended the back line with double-digit dig totals.
