Callagy, Modafferi and Brissing Earn Cross Country All-Conference Honors

Three Spartan runners were named to the ECC All-Conference Cross Country Teams on Saturday at the East Coast Conference Championship at C.W. Post.  Sophomore Sarah Callagy was named to the first team after an impressive 6th place finish, crossig the line in 21:06 for the Lady Spartans.  Senior Vinny Modafferi was named to the men's first team while classmate Einar Brissing garnered second team honors.  Both the men's and women's squads finished in sixth place overall.

The Lady Spartans posted a sixth place finish behind lead runner Callagy and fellow sophomore Chelsea Klinger.  Klinger finished in 17th place with a time of 22:26.  Lisa Brevogel (24:03), Andrea Riquelme (26:49) and Ashley Toscano (27:31) rounded out the scorers for STAC.  These times reflected strong improvements out of the women's team with a large drop from the last time the team ran this course in early September.

Modafferi (28:29) and Brissing (28:44) ran solid races finishing in 6th and 11th respectively.  The two seniors were followed by freshman James Patton who completed the course in 32:04 in his first conference championship.  He improved his course time by two minutes since the C.W. Post Invitational last month.  Senior Chris  Muniz, sophomore Matt Muniz and junior Dan Nilsen ran in a pack for a large portion of the race.  Chris Muniz crossed the line first in 34:42 followed by his brother Matt in 35:05.  Nilsen completed the Spartan squad with a time of 35:30.

The Spartans will return to action at the NCAA Division II East Regional at Franklin Park in Boston, MA on Sunday November 8th.
