The St. Thomas Aquinas Cross Country team continued to improve their times this weekend with eight runners acheiving personal bests at Bethpage State Park.  Sarah Callagy and Chelsea Klinger lead the way for the women's team while Einar Brissing and Vinny Modafferi were the top scorers for the men.

Callagy finished in 9th place in 19:59, which is her best by seventeen seconds.  Klinger followed in 21:03, also beating the personal best she recorded earlier this season.  Sophomore Lisa Brevogel finished in third for the Lady Spartans.  Classmate Andrea Riquelme ran a tough race and beat her previous PR by 1:44 crossing the line in 24:04.  A big drop in time from senior Ashley Toscano had a positive impact on the team's finish and freshman Kelsey Scardera showed a great deal of heart bettering her 5K time by almost two minutes.  The women finished in tenth for the day in the eighteen team field.

The men's team also saw four PR's out of the six participant's in the NYIT Invitational.  Brissing's 26:49 was the best of his career and put him in 19th for the day.  Modafferi finished in 27:23 which was good for 31st place.  Freshman James Patton had a great race, crossing the line in 29:49 bettering his top time by a whopping four minutes.  Senior Chris Muniz finished fourth for STAC in 31:53.  He ran a good portion of the race with his brother Matt, who clocked a personal best in 32:30.  Junior Dan Nilsen followed in suit, with another great performance, coming in at 32:50, more than a minute better than any previous race.

STAC will be off next week and will return to action on October 4th at the CSI Invitational at Van Cortland Park.
