Bateman Named to Women's Cross Country All-Region Team

Sophomore Keeley Bateman is the first Lady Spartan in cross country program history to be honored as an USTFCCA All-Region Team member.  Bateman garnered the honor following a 19th place finish at the 2011 NCAA DII East Regional race on Sunday.

Bateman was named to the ECC All-Conference 1st Team after a 3rd place finish at the ECC Championship.  She was also named the Co-MVP at the Spartan Fall Sports Banquet.  Bateman led the Lady Spartans in four of seven races this season. As a freshman, she was named the ECC Rookie of the Year, an ECC All-Conference 1st Team selection and to the USTFCCCA All-Academic Team.

The Lady Spartans had a successful 2011 season which was capped off with a 2nd place finish at the ECC Championship followed by a 14th place finish at the NCAA DII East Regional.

The U.S. Track & Field and Cross Country Coaches Association (USTFCCCA) recognized nearly 400 athletes that earned All-Region awards for cross country in Division II following this weekend’s NCAA Regional Championships. Athletes of member schools that finished in the top 25 individually at one of the eight regional sites earned the honor.  Bateman was one of only two female runners from the East Coast Conference to earn this award.
