Lady Spartans Clinch 2nd at ECC Championship

The St. Thomas Aquinas College women's cross country team finished in 2nd place at the East Coast Conference Championship at LIU Post in Brookville, NY.  Defending their 2012 title, the Lady Spartans fell short by just 4 points to the host school.  Senior Keeley Bateman ran a personal record of 18:54 on the course finishing 12th overall.

Bateman, who was named an All-Conference runner, topped her former course PB by 10 seconds.  Sophomore Gabriela Sloezen set a 5K personal record of 19:24.  This forty second drop was crucial for her team.  "Gabby really stepped up for us.  She has been consistently improving.  I am really proud of her performance and am very excited about her future," commented sixth year head coach Nicole Ballou.  Classmate Meagan Jaskot was next for the Lady Spartans crossing the line in 19:33.  Redshirt Meaghan Venatrola dropped under twenty minutes for the first time this season with her time 0f 19:53.  Her collegiate persoal best combined with a PR for sophomore Rebecca Fortoul (20:08) rounded out the scorers for STAC.  Freshmen Jumana Khatib and sophomore Cecelia Pfleging also added support finishing at 20:30 and 20:42 respectively.

The Lady Spartans will be back in action in two weeks at the NCAA East Regional race at Franklin Park in Dorcestor, MA.
