Women's Cross Country Wins Invitational

The St. Thomas Aquinas Women's Cross Country team won their first race of the season at the LIU Post Invitational on Saturday.  The win featured 3 top ten finishes by Kristen Borriello (5th), Meaghan Ventarola (6th) and Katie O'Grady (10th).  Sophomore Vincent Vazquez was the first finisher for the men who earned a 5th place finish.

Borriello and Ventarola ran strong races, settling into the lead pack early.  They finished in 19:19 and 19:26.  O'Grady held a strong position throughout and clocked a time of 19:57. Senior Gabriela Sloezen took the 4th spot for the Spartans finishing in 20:43 and classmate Ceceia Pfleging was next in 20:53. This team win follows a second place finish in the opening race of the season. 

Vazquez continued his role as the first Spartan to cross the line for the men with a time of 28:19. Juniors Jamer Linares and Ryan Gasser came in at 29:12 and 29:23 respectively.  Rookie Harley Ruiz was right behind the upperclassmen, finishing in 29:36. Sophomore Christian Diaz was the final Spartan scorer with a time of 30:18. 

The Spartans will host the Spartan Alumni Run on Saturday at Tallman State Park at 10:00 AM.
