Cross Country Takes 2nd at ECC Championship

The men's and women's cross country team each earned a 2nd place finish at the East Coast Conference Championship in Rochester on Saturday.  Both teams fell only to Roberts Wesleyan College and posted a large point spread over all of the other ECC competitors.

For the women, junior Rebecca MacLeod was the first finisher.  She crossed the line in 10th place with a time of 20:04.  Classmate Aida Torpey was right behind her, finishing just 2 seconds later.  This junior duo has been a key combination in all of the team's races this season.  Junior Laura Herbes stepped up into the third spot for the first time this season, finishing in 14th place at 20:15, which is just 11 seconds shy of her personal best.  Sophomore Abigaile Kimbrell (20:27) was the fourth Spartan scorer with an 18th place finish.  Classmate Kayla Cobelli rounded out the scorers for the Spartans.   Her time of 20:52 was good for 21st place.

On the men's side, junior Aidan Russell ran a personal best time of 26:26 finishing in 6th place.  The next three Spartan finishers ran as a pack finishing in 15th, 16th and 17th places.  Sophomore Nick Martello finished in 27:20, followed by senior Ian Mirtile in 27:23 and sohomore Matthew Tina in a personal best 27:26.  Junior Kyle Kondracki was the final Spartan scorer clocking a time of 27:55.

The Spartans will move on to compete in the NCAA DII East Regional at Bethpage State Park on Saturday, November 17th.  The men's race will begin at 12:00 PM, followed by the women at 1:15 PM.
