Spartans Close Season at NCAA DII East Regional

The St. Thomas Aquinas College cross country season ended on Saturday at the NCAA DII East Regional hosted by Adelphi University at Bethpage State Park. The women's team finished 12th in the East while the men were 17th overall.

Junior Aida Torpey was the first finisher for the Lady Spartans coming across the line in 35th place.  She clocked a time of 23:50.  Classmate Rebecca MacLeod was next in 24:36 which was good for 55th place.  MacLeod will conclude her cross country career as she will graduate early.  She has been a huge part of the team's success both as a runner, but also as a leader.  Junior Laura Herbes, in her first year running as a Spartan, finished in 25:13.  Sophomore Kayla Cobelli capped off a strong season coming in at 25:33.  Abagaile Kimbrell was the final corer for the team with a time of 25:51.  Shannon Thompson crossed the line in 26:10 and freshman Samantha Biss finished at 27:47.

For the men, senior Ian Mirtile ended his career as the top finisher.  His time of 36:06 brought him in at 86th place.  Sophomore Matt Tina ran a strong race as the second scorer for the first time this season.  He clocked a time of 36:19.  Freshman Raymond Meagher also stepped up for the Spartans.  He crossed the line in 37:13 followed by sophomore Nick Martello (37:22).  Junior Kyle Kondracki and freshmam Dan Agostinho-Vides were the next two for the Spartans in 37:26 and 37:46 respectively.

The team will now begin to prpare for the track season.
