Matt Matcovich and Chris Muniz Receive Top ECC Honors

Seniors Matt Matcovich and Chris Muniz were both honored at the East Coast Conference 1st Annual Awards Dinner.  Matcovich recieved the ECC Male Scholar-Athlete Award along with being named the Baseball Scholar-Athlete of the Year for this Spring.  Muniz received the prestigious ECC Community and Character Award.

Matcovich was a two year pitcher for the Spartan baseball team.  The senior maintained a 4.0 GPA throughout his two years at STAC and graduated in May with a Math degree.  Matcovich also had great success on the mound for the Spartans this season as he went 6-2 in his final season pitching over 60 innings and picking up 42 strike outs.  Matcovich was also recognized as the ECC Baseball Scholar-Athlete of the Year.

Muniz was the first Spartan runner to race on a National level as he qualified for the 2010 Indoor Track & Field National Championships.  Muniz qualified at Boston University as he crossed the finish in 48.25, a lifetime best, and a 2010 NCAA DII provisional mark in the 400m.  Muniz devoted four years of his life to Saint Thomas Aquinas College both in athletics and academics, also maintaining a 4.0 GPA.  He is a member of the Chi Alpha Sigma Athletic Honor Society and consistently holds a place on the Dean's List.  Muniz also gives back to the community in many ways.  He has taken part in many campus events such as the SIDS Walk and Relay for Life and also volunteers for a local politician in an effort to make the community a better place.
