Spartans Play 4 Kay

On Saturday, February 11th, St. Thomas Aquinas hosted Spartan Breast Cancer Awareness Day to raise money for the Kay Yow WBCA Cancer Foundation.  The basketball teams wore pink-t-shirts and shoe laces to show their support in the fight against cancer.  All proceeds from both the men's and women's basketball games against C.W. Post were donated along with the money earned from selling t-shirts, chocolate lollipops and breast cancer awareness ribbons.  Between the games, St. Thomas Aquinas College president, Margaret Fitzpatrick, was presented with a check for $325 to be donated to the Kay Yow WBCA Cancer Foundation.

The WBCA Play 4 Kay initiative is a global, unified effort for the Women's Basketball Coaches Association's (WBCA) nation of coaches to assist in raising breast cancer awareness on the court, across campuses, in communities and beyond.  It began in 2007 as an initiative to raise breast cancer awareness in women's basketball, on campuses and in communities.  Since the Fund’s inception, $5.2 million has been raised and $2.15 million has been granted for scientific research and related programs focused on women’s cancers thanks to the generosity and continued support of our donors.
