Spartans Split with Lions

The St. Thomas Aquinas baseball team beat Molloy College, 2-1 in the first game of today's double header before picking up a tough 3-2 extra innings loss in game two.  Matt Smith and George Wargo went 2-for-3 in game one with Smith adding a run and Wargo batted in two.

In game one, Wargo hit a 2-run RBI single, scoring Kevin Ryan and Smith to put STAC ahead 2-1 in the fourth.  Brian LaMarr earned the win on 5 hits, 1 run and 4 strike outs in 6.1 innings.  David Schwartz closed out the game striking out one of two and picking up the save for STAC. 

In the second game STAC jumped out to a 1-0 lead off an RBI single from Matt Marotta.  In the fifth, Frank Salerno lead off with a double, advanced to third on a ground out and scored on a wild pitch.  Molloy tied the game with a 2-run home run by T.J. Greig.  Both teams went scoreless in the seventh and the eighth.  The Lions, Greg Walsh lead off with a single, Erik Pyle walked and Frank Marchisello singled to score Walsh.  STAC stranded two in the bottom of the ninth as Molloy picked up the win.

The Spartans will travel to Molloy on Saturday for a 1:00 game.
