Spartans Beat Bridgeport, 6-1

The St. Thomas Aquinas baseball team beat Bridgeport, 6-1 in todays ECC game.  Matt Smith was 3-for-4 with a run and an RBI.  Fred Moore and Frank Salerno were 2-for-3 with an RBI each.  Kevin Ryan earned the win on the mound.

Ryan went six innings for STAC giving up one run in the top of the first while stiking out 2.  With runners on first and second and two outs the Spartans scored off a Moore single to tie the game, 1-1 in the fourth.  Salerno added an RBI single in the next at bat to give STAC a 2-1 lead.  The Spartans added another run in the fifth off an RBI single from Smith, scoring Mike Apreda. 

The Spartans added 3 more runs in the eighth as Smith who lead the inning off with a single scored on a wild pitch.  Joe DePool added an RBI single to score George Wargo. DePool also scored on a wild pitch.  Robert Frank went two innings for STAC giving up 1 hit and striking out 2 while David Schwartz went one inning alowing just 1 hit. 

The Spartans will host Bridgeport for a double header on Saturday starting at 12:00 PM.  Saturday's game will be played at Rockland Community College.
