Spartan baseball players were selected to play in All-Star games for their respective summer leagues on July 12th. Sophomore outfielder, Nick Barbalato (West) and junior pitcher Mark Fochesato (East) played against one another in the NYCBL All-Star Game . Senior Infielder Vin Malzahn played in the NYCBL East/ West Future Games while junior infielder Andrew Ahn played for the West in the ACBL.
The NYCBL (New York Collegiate Baseball League), is a summer wood bat development league for professional baseball. The league gives college players who have not yet signed a professional contract the opportunity to develop their skills at a higher level of play, gain experience with wood bats, and be evaluated by scouts. Barbalato and Malzahn played for the Allegany County Nitros (22-17), while Fochesato went 4-2 pitching for the Cooperstown Hawkeyes who finished (21-21). Barbalto had 44 hits including 4 doubles and 14 RBI for the season while Malzahn had 29 hits, 7 doubles and 15 RBI.
Ahn played for the Long Island Collegians who finished 22-15. Ahn had 23 hits, 14 runs and 10 RBI. He was also 12-15 in Stolen Bases.
