The St. Thomas Aquinas baseball team split with Dowling this afternoon, picking up a 1-0 win before losing 3-2 in 12 innings. Brian LaMarr went seven scoreless innings giving up one hit and striking out 4 batters for the win. Mike Apreda hit an RBI-single to score Fernando Peralta who lead off with a triple in the third.
In the second game of the day, Dowling scored a run in the 12th inning to break a 2-2 tie and win the game. The Spartans came from behind scoring runs in the third and fifth to tie the game. In the third, Matt Smith hit a sac fly with runners on second and third to put STAC on the scoreboard. In the fifth, George Wargo hit an RBI single, scoring Kevin Ryan who was hit by a pitch. Matt Matkovich went 4.2 innings giving up 2 runs while striking out 4.
The Spartans will play Dowling on Sunday for the final game of the five game series. Sunday's game will begin at 1:00 PM.
