Mercy Edges STAC, 6-5

The St. Thomas Aquinas baseball team lost at Mercy College, 6-5 in yesterday's ECC game.  Andrew Ahn went 3-for-4 with 2 runs.  Matt Smith went 2-for-3 with 2 runs and 3 RBI and David Schwartz went 2-for-5 with 2 RBI.

STAC jumped out to a 2-0 lead in the 1st behind a 2 RBI Schwartz triple that scored Smith and Ahn.  Smith added a 2 RBI double in the 2nd to give STAC a 4-0 lead. Mercy responded with two runs of their own in the bottom of the inning to climb within two, 4-2.  Smith added an RBI single to score Kevin Ryan in the 4th and extend the Spartans lead.  The Mavericks continued to stay close as they added one run in the 4th and went on to tie the game with two runs in the bottom of the 6th.  The Mavericks scored in the 8th to take a 6-5 lead and STAC left one stranded in the ninth. 

The Spartans will host the Mavericks on Saturday for a double header at Rockland Community College.  Saturday's games will begin at 11:00 AM.  The Spartans will host their first Pasta Dinner Night Saturday evening in the Romano Center at 7:00 PM.
