The St. Thomas Aquinas baseball team lost to Mercy College, 7-6 Sunday afternoon. Matt Marotta was 3-for-3 with 2 runs. Dan McDermott, Fernando Peralta and Andrew Ahn all went 2-for-4. McDermott added 2 runs and an RBI while Ahn had 1 run and 3 RBI's.
Mercy jumped out to a 2-0 lead in the 1st but the Spartans responded with four runs in the 2nd. Marotta and George Wargo hit back to back singles and Marotta was brought home off a McDermott RBI single. Ahn hit a 2 RBI double and Kevin Ryan added an RBI triple to give STAC a 4-2 lead. The Mavericks added a run in the 5th. STAC had a 2 Run 6th as Marotta scored on an error and Ahn added another RBI single putting STAC ahead 6-3. Mercy had another strong late inning against the Spartans as they scored 4 Runs to pick up the win and sweep STAC in the five game series.
The Spartans finish the regular season at 23-25 and 15-15 in the ECC. STAC will play Molloy College on Thursday at Dowling for the first game of the double elimination series. Thursday's game will be at 12:00 noon.
