Spartans Sweep Purple Knights in Five Game Series

The St. Thomas Aquinas baseball team beat Bridgeport 3-1 in Sundays ECC game.  STAC went 5-0 against the Purple Knights this week along with a road win at Nyack for a 6-0 week.  Freshman Mike Apreda went 3-for-5 and scored 2 runs for the Spartans.

Apreda singled in the top of the third then stole second.  He advanced to third on a ground out and was sent home on a bunt single by Kevin Ryan to give STAC a 1-0 lead.  The Purple Knights scored in the bottom of the inning as Tyler Moffatt was hit by a pitch with bases loaded.  STAC came back to take the lead in the fourth as Fernando Peralta scored for the Spartans. 

STAC added another run in the seventh as Apreda hit another single and stole second.  He advanced to third on a wild pitch and was sent home by an RBI single from Matt Marotta.  Brian LaMarr picked up the win for the Spartans and Mark Fochesato had the save.  STAC improved to 20-18 overall and 12-8 in the conference.  The Spartans are currently in third place in the ECC.

STAC will return to action on Tuesday for a non-conference game against Caldwell and then a five game series with Molloy College.  Tuesday's game will be at the Vet at 3:00 PM.
