Spartans Put Away Warriors, 10-3

The St. Thomas Aquinas baseball team beat Nyack 10-3 in last nights game.  Matt Smith was 2-for-5 with a run and an RBI.  David Schwartz was 2-for-4 with an RBI while Mike Puka was 2-for-2 with a run. 

Schwartz had an RBI single in the first, to score Mike Apreda who led off the game with a single.  Nyack tied the game in the bottom of the inning 1-1 behind an RBI single from JD Calabrese.   In the top of the third, with a runner on second, the Spartans took a 2-1 lead behind Smith's RBI single.  STAC added a run in the fourth but the Warriors were able to close  within one in the bottom of the inning, 3-2.  Nyack tied the game in the sixth behind an RBI single from TJ Briggs.

Matt Kaldon hit an RBI double in the seventh to give the Spartans back the lead.  Kevin Ryan's sac fly scored Kaldon to give STAC a 5-3 advantage.  The Spartans had a 4-run eighth inning, starting with Andrew Ahn's bases loaded walk to score Mike Aviles.  STAC went on to add a run in the ninth to secure the 10-3 victory. 

Jared Randazzo picked up the win for the Spartans, going 2 innings with one run and 3 strike outs.  Sean Marsiglia and Chris Schope pitched the final three innings holding the Warriors scoreless with a combined 4 strike outs.  The Spartans are 3-0 against Nyack for the season. 

The Spartans will travel to Bridgeport on Wednesday for a 3:30 game.
