  • Spartans Season Ends in ECC Championship

    The St. Thomas Aquinas baseball team dropped two games on Friday afternoon in the ECC double elimination tournament. The Spartans lost a 2-1 defensive battle against the Golden Lions in their first game yesterday before falling 13-3 to Bridgeport. Frank Saelrno went 3-for-7 with 3 runs and a RBI for the day.

    St. Thomas Aquinas baseball players Vin Malzahn, Frank Salerno, Fred Moore and Mark Fochesato were named to the ECC 1st team All Conference. George Wargo was named to the ECC 2nd team All Conference.

    The St. Thomas Aquinas baseball team beat Molloy College, 4-1 in today's ECC post season game. Frank Salerno scored the Spartans first run in the 1st inning. Vin Malzahn and Christian Santo each added a RBI. Mark Fochesato went 9 innings yielding 1 run and striking out 5 batters.

    The St. Thomas Aquinas baseball team clinched the #4 seed of the ECC tournament. The Spartans are set to play the #1 seed on Thursday at Dowling College at 3:00 p.m. STAC is making its 7th post season appearance out of its nine seasons at NCAA Division II and under the helm of head coach Scott Muscat. This is the 4th consecutive post season.

    The St. Thomas Aquinas baseball team beat C.W. Post, 5-3 to win 4 out of the 5 game series and clinch an ECC playoff spot. The Spartans dropped an 8-7 game earlier in the day, giving up 3 runs in the 9th inning. Joe Antenucci went 4-for-9 with 3 RBI and 2 runs for the day. Nick Barbalato went 4-for-8 with 3 RBI and a run.

    The St. Thomas Aquinas baseball team beat C.W. Post, 3-2 and 6-1 in Saturday's double header. Mike Walraven hit the go ahead RBI single to score Nick D'Angelo in the 6th. Mark Fochesato and Eric Cooper went the distance for the Spartans each picking up a win.

    The St. Thomas Aquinas baseball team beat C.W. Post, 14-6. Christian Santo went 5-for-5 for the Spartans with 2 runs and 3 RBI. The freshman had 4 singles and 1 double for a record outing for a STAC rookie. Joe Ferrara went 6 innings, yielding 1 run.

    The St. Thomas Aquinas baseball team lost to Molloy College, 4-1. Joe Antenucci went 2-for-5 for STAC while Nick D'Angelo went 2-for-4. Fred Moore hit a RBI sac fly to score Mike Apreda who was hit by a pitch.

    The St. Thomas Aquinas baseball team beat Mercy College 6-4 in the completion of Friday's 2nd game that was suspended due to darkness. STAC went on to win 22-2 in the first scheduled game of the day before dropping the final game of the series, 5-3. Frank Salerno went 8-for-13 for the day with 5 RBI and 3 runs.

    The St. Thomas Aquinas baseball team beat Mercy, 10-3 in game one before game two was suspended due to darkness ending in a 4-4 tie. Vin Malzahn went 2-for-4 with 3 RBI and 2 runs. Malzahn got the Spartans off to a strong start with a 2-run homer in the 1st inning.

    The St. Thomas Aquinas baseball team beat Dominican College, 5-0. Joe Antenucci went 3-for-4 with 2 runs while Vin Malzahn went 2-for-4 with 3 RBI and a run. Mike Walraven went 3-for-4 and Frank Salerno added 2 runs for STAC. Joe Ferrarra earned the win with 6 strike outs in the shutout.

    The St. Thomas Aquinas baseball team lost to Mercy College, 5-4. Joe Antenucci went 2-for-4 with 2 runs while Nick Barbalato was 2-for-3 with an RBI. Andrew Ahn hit an RBI single in the 8th to bring STAC within one.

    The St. Thomas Aquinas baseball team lost to Molloy College, 8-7 and 6-2. In game one, STAC scored 3 runs in the bottom of the 9th but fell short. Fred Moore went 2-for-5 with 2 RBI and a run while Vin Malzahn went 2-for-5 with an RBI and 2 runs. Moore added an RBI triple in the 6th for STAC.

    The St. Thomas Aquinas baseball team has held its spot at #10 in the East Region. STAC went 3-0 last week in non-conference action and is 13-9-1 overall. The Spartans currently sit on top of the ECC with a 4-1 conference record.

Nick Barbalato, Andew Ahn, Matt Smith and Mike Apreda each had two hits as the Spartans pounded out 16 hits.

    The St. Thomas Aquinas baseball team is ranked 10th in the Region with a record of 10-9-1 and 4-1 in the ECC. STAC is led by grad student Vin Malzahn who has a team high 20 hits, 10 runs and 9 RBI. Andrew Ahn has added 19 hits, 9 runs and 6 RBI while Nick Barbalato has 17 hits, 10 runs and 6 RBI.
  • Robert Frank Named ECC Pitcher of the Week

    St. Thomas Aquinas baseball player Robert Frank was named the ECC Pitcher of the Week. Frank went 8 innings in STAC's opening game against Queens giving up just 1 run and striking out 14 batters as the Spartans cruised to a 5-1 win. The Spartans went 4-1 against the Knights last week.
