Malzahn, Salerno, Moore, Fochesato and Wargo Earn ECC Honors

St. Thomas Aquinas baseball players Vin Malzahn, Frank Salerno, Fred Moore and Mark Fochesato were named to the ECC 1st team All Conference.  George Wargo was named to the ECC 2nd team All Conference.

Grad student Vin Malzahn leads the Spartans with 55 hits and 33 RBI.  The first baseman added 32 runs and has a team high 14 doubles, 3 triples and 4 home runs going into todays game.  Malzahn was named the ECC player of the week on March 14th and is among the ECC top six in batting average with a .331.

Frank Salerno has 48 hits and 17 RBI for the Spartans.  The sophomore is batting .338 and has 7 doubles and 1 triple this season.  The 2nd baseman has 24 steals for the Spartans out of 27 attempts.  Senior Fred Moore 35 hits, 18 runs and 24 RBI.  The DH has connected on 8 doubles, 1 triple and 2 home runs this season. 

Mark Fochesato has pitched 44 innings for the Spartans during the regular season.  The right hand pitcher has thrown 41 strike outs this season and has gone 3-2 in conference play.  Fellow senior George Wargo has 29 hits, 13 runs and 19 RBI.  The catcher has 186 putouts this season.  Wargo has 5 doubles and a home run for the Spartans and has added 5 stolen bases. 

The Spartans finished the regular season with an overall record of 25-23-1 and 15-15 in the ECC.  St. Thomas earned the #4 seed in the ECC playoffs and is taking on the #1 seed molloy College this afternoon at Dowling.
