Spartans Set for Post Season

The St. Thomas Aquinas baseball team clinched the #4 seed of the ECC tournament.  The Spartans are set to play the #1 seed on Thursday at Dowling College at 3:00 p.m.  STAC is making its 7th post season appearance out of its nine seasons at NCAA Division II and under the helm of head coach Scott Muscat.  This is the 4th consecutive post season for the Spartans. 

The Spartans finished the regular season with an overall record of 25-23-1 and 15-15 in the ECC.  Grad student Vin Malzahn leads the Spartans with 55 hits and 33 RBI.  The first baseman added 32 runs and has a team high 14 doubles, 3 triples and 4 home runs.  Joe Antenucci who has returned for the last 12 games, after being injured, is batting .435 heading into the post season.  Frank Salerno has 48 hits and 17 RBI while Nick Barbalato have 45 hits and 20 RBI.  

Robert Frank has led the Spartans in innings pitched with 59 and has a team high 62 strike outs this season.  Sean Marsigliahas gone 55.2 innings with 45 strike outs while Joe Ferrara has gone 42.7 innings with 34 strike outs.  Eric Cooper has gone 4-2 in conference appearances while Mark Fochesato is 3-2 in ECC match ups.

The Spartans will face Molloy College in their opening game of the double elimination series.  All four teams will move on to play their respective opponents on Friday afternoon, also at Dowling College.
