The St. Thomas Aquinas baseball team beat Mercy College 6-4 in the completion of Friday's 2nd game that was suspended due to darkness. STAC went on to win 22-2 in the first scheduled game of the day before dropping the final game of the series, 5-3. Frank Salerno went 8-for-13 for the day with 5 RBI and 3 runs.
The Spartans finished the second game from Friday's double header breaking open a 4-4 tie with a RBI single from Salerno. Andrew Ahn added a sac RBI to give STAC a 6-4 lead and the Spartans held on for the win. Mark Fochesato pitched the final five innings yielding 4 hits and holding the Mavericks to no runs with 4 strike outs.
STAC opening the first game of the day with a 7-run 3rd inning highlighted by a 2 RBI single from George Wargo. Fred Moore had a RBI double and Salerno added another RBI single. Salerno also had a RBI double in the 4th inning where the Spartans were able to tack on 4 more runs. D'Angelo added a 2 RBI double for the Spartans in the 8th as STAC put together their most runs in a game against the Mavericks. Fochesato picked up the win going another 5 scoreless innings with 2 strike outs.
In the final game of the day Vin Malzahn went 2-for-3 with a run. Wargo's RBI double in the 6th brought the Spartans within two but the Mavericks held on for a 5-3 win.
STAC will face C.W. Post next week in the final series of the regular season.
