The St. Thomas Aquinas baseball team beat Mercy, 10-3 in game one before game two was suspended due to darkness ending in a 4-4 tie. Vin Malzahn went 2-for-4 with 3 RBI and 2 runs. Malzahn got the Spartans off to a strong start with a 2-run homer in the 1st inning.
Mercy was able to answer with a run in the bottom of the 1st until the Spartans put together a 5-run 4th inning. Malzahn added a RBI single in the span scoring Joe Antenucci who walked. Fred Moore had a sacrifice RBI scoring Frank Salerno. Antenucci went 2-for-2 with 2 runs and a RBI while Salerno was 2-for-3 with 3 runs and a RBI double in the 6th.
Robert Frank went 4 innings giving up 2 runs and striking out 1 batter. Joe Klemowitz went 2.2 innings yielding 1 hit, 0 runs and 2 strike outs.
The Spartans will finish game two, which was left tied after 8 innings, on Sunday prior to their next double header against the Mavericks.
