Spartans Split with Purple Knights

The St. Thomas Aquinas baseball team split with Bridgeport in today's double header.  The Spartans won the first game, 3-2 before falling 1-0 in game two.  Nick Barbalato and Frank Salerno each had 2 hits for the Spartans.  George Wargo hit an RBI single to left in the 6th inning scoring the go ahead run for STAC.

Bridgeport scored both of their runs in the 2nd inning.  Barbalato scored Andrew Ahn who led off with a walk to put the Spartans on the scoreboard.  Vin Malzahn hit an RBI sac fly in the 5th, scoring Salerno and tying the game.  Wargo's single scored Mke Apreda to put STAC ahead 3-2.  Eric Cooper went 7 innings for STAC, striking out 4 batters, picking up the win. 

The Spartans were held scoreless in the second game.  Matt Smith and Fred Moore each had a hit.  Mark Fochesato pitched a solid game yielding 4 hits and giving up a solo run while striking out 5 batters.

STAC will face Bridgeport for the final game of the series tomorrow at Dutchess County Stadium at 1:00 p.m.
