Spartans Hold onto 10th Spot in Region

The St. Thomas Aquinas baseball team has held its spot at #10 in the East Region.  STAC went 3-0 last week in non-conference action and is 13-9-1 overall.  The Spartans currently sit on top of the ECC with a 4-1 conference record. 

Andrew Ahn is leading the Spartans in hits so far this season with 24 and batting .343.  Ahn batted .500 in last weeks 3-0 performance with 5 hits in 10 at bats.  Vin Malzahn and Nick Barbalato each have 23 hits with Malzahn adding 13 runs and 11 RBI and Barbalato with 16 runs and 9 RBI.  George Wargo has a team high 12 RBI for the Spartans including 3 doubles and a homerun in his 12 hits. 

Fred Moore, Frank Salerno and Matt Smith are all batting over .300 for the Spartans with 15 or more hits each.  Moore went 6-for-15 with 5 runs and 5 RBI this past week for STAC.  The senior catcher batted .400 this past week and had 24 putouts and no errors.  Andrew Hancsak has a team high batting average of .350 playing in 12 of this years games adding 7 hits and 7 RBI.

Robert Frank picked up another win on the mound for STAC.  Frank is now 4-1 overall.  Frank has a team high 46 strike outs this season.  Sean Marsiglia also notched another win this past week.  Marsiglia has 27 strike outs on the season. 

STAC will face ECC opponent Dowling College this weekend.
