Baseball Blanks AIC, 1-0; Spartans Win Sixth Straight, 4-of-4 in Florida Trip

The St. Thomas Aquinas College baseball team remained perfect on its current Florida trip, defeating American International College in a 1-0 pitchers' duel. The Spartans have won all four games in the Sunshine State thus far, and six in a row overall to improve to 8-4 on the season. They have also taken seven of their last eight after dropping their first three contests. With the loss, AIC falls to 3-2 on the season.

The Spartans and AIC traded blanks through the first six innings as STAC freshman Nick May more than held his own, throwing 5 1/3 scoreless innings before yielding to reliever Ken Frawley in the sixth. Derek Hirsch ripped an RBI double in the 7th to bring home Matt Marotta and account for the only run. Marotta had led off the frame with a double, his second hit of the day. Meanwhile, Frawley continued to hold AIC off the board through the 7th, and 8th inning and was credited with the win. Joe DePool picked up the save by pitching a scoreless 9th.

The Spartans have two games remaining in their Sunshine State Six, which continues on Tuesday, March 13, when STAC will face the University of New Haven. The trip winds up on Wednesday, March 14 against St. Michael's College, after which the team will return north to host Southern New Hampshire University in a pair of twin-bills at Provident Bank Park on Saturday and Sunday, March 17 and 18. Both double-headers are scheduled to start at 12:00 noon.
