Scott Muscat Named NCBWA Coach of the Year, Mike Russo Earns Player of the Year

St. Thomas Aquinas head baseball coach Scott Muscat was named the NCWBA East Region Coach of the Year for the second year in a row after guiding the Spartans to a regular season title as well as a conference championship. Senior Mike Russo was named the NCBWA player of the year.

The Spartans went 35-11 in the regular season breaking the school's win record that was set the previous year at 33.  STAC was ranked in the East Region all season dropping as low as #2 after winning the ECC Championship and advancing to the NCAA tournament for the first time in the school's history. 

Russo, who was also named the ECC player of the year, is currently hitting .349 with an East Region high 11 homeruns and 62 runs batted in on the season. He has also compiled 17 doubles, four triples, 119 total bases, 47 runs, and 61 hits on the season to rank in the top four in the ECC in each category. Russo's .427 on-base percentage and .680 slugging percentage are also among the tops in the ECC.

Spartans second basemen, Efrain Bautista and outfielder Rich Baerga were named to the NCBWA first team while third basemen Stanley Susana was named to the second team.  Starting pitcher Rob Frank along with relief pitcher C.J. Ferrigi were second team selections as well.
