Baseball Sweeps Weekly ECC Awards

The St. Thomas Aquinas Baseball team took home all three East Coast Conference weekly awards.  Senior Mike Russo Was named Player of the Week, junior Robert Frank garnered Pitcher of the Week and freshman Robert Naughton earned Rookie of the Week honors.

Russo had another strong week, adding two homers to his league-leading total of five, including a three-run shot at Post. He also added a double and a triple as the Spartans went 4-1 on the week, and Russo turned in an .875 slugging percentage while going 5-for-16 (.313) with five walks, 11 RBI and six runs scored. His 34 RBIs on the season leads the league.

Frank continued his recent dominance with a nine-inning complete-game shutout at LIU-Post. Rob scattered just four hits and didn’t walk a batter while fanning 11 in the Spartans’ victory. Frank’s numbers have been nothing short of stunning of late. Over his past four outings, he is 3-1 with a miniscule 0.62 earned run average, allowing just two earned runs on nine hits in 29 innings of work, striking out 42 while walking 11. His current scoreless innings streak stands at 22.2 innings - all in conference play.

Naughton continued his emergence as a key starter for St. Thomas Aquinas, winning both of his conference starts this week. He allowed two runs in 6.1 innings in a win over Mercy, and followed that with an 8-inning, one-run showing at Post. In all, he threw 14.1 innings, allowing three earned runs for a 1.88 ERA, allowing nine hits, striking out seven and walking five. On the season he is now 4-0 with a 1.93 ERA.
