Spartans Outslugged at Nova Southeastern, 20-4

The St. Thomas Aquinas College baseball team dropped to 2-2 on their current Florida trip after a 20-4 loss at Nova Southeastern University. The Spartans have two games remaining before heading north. STAC fell to 6-4 with the setback, while Nova improved to 13-7.

Wildness proved costly to Spartan starter Rob Frank, who left after walking six batters in just 1.2 innings of work, helping the hosts build a 5-1 lead through two innings. STAC trimmed the margin with a run in the third when Frank Salerno doubled, stole third and scored on a grounder, but the Sharks would answer emphatically with two in the bottom half and six more in the fourth to provide a comfortable 13-2 cushion.

STAC showed some battle with RBIs from Mike Russo and Efrain Bautista in the fifth to draw within 13-4, but the hit parade continued for the hosts, who answered with two in the fifth, another pair in the seventh and three in the eighth to cruise to victory.

The Spartans will have a quick turnaround, facing St. Michael's College tomorrow, Wednesday, at noon, before wrapping up their southern sojurn against Caldwell College on Thursday, also at noon.
