STAC Baseball Alum Salerno Gets The Call To Play Pro Ball

Frank Salerno, a STAC Alum and former member of the Spartan Baseball Team (2009-2013) got the call that so many baseball players only dream of, a chance to suit up with a professional baseball club. Salerno was signed earlier Tuesday by the Fargo-Moorhead RedHawks of the American Association of Independent Professional Baseball.

The RedHawks were searching for an additional infielder with a strong bat and steady glove to replace their catcher Petey Paramore, who suddenly departed the team to be with his wife for the birth of their child. Salerno, a New City native, was immediately placed in the starting line-up in a ballpark he is very familiar with, Provident Bank Park and against a team that he also knows very well, the Rockland Boulders.

In his season debut, Salerno batted eighth in the RedHawks line-up and played second base in front of his family, friends and former Spartan Baseball teammates and coaches.

On the night, Frank went 1 for 4 with 2 RBI and a strikeout, as Fargo-Moorhead fell to Rockland, 4-3. His lone hit, a double, came in the top of the ninth inning against Boulder's Closer Chad Robinson, scoring his new teammates Brandon Tripp and Travis Higgs.

Salerno will be with Fargo-Moorhead Wednesday night as they take on the Rockland Boulders in the finale of the 3-game series at Provident Bank Park. First pitch is scheduled for 7pm.
