STAC Baseball Tops Bentley, 5-2, for First Victory of Season

The St. Thomas Aquinas College baseball team defeated Bentley University, 5-2 at Rollins College in Winter Park, Florida. Stanley Susana drove in a pair of runs to key the STAC offense as the Spartans improved to 1-1 on the season while dropping Bentley to 0-4.

STAC took just four batters to grab its first lead of the young season, with CJ Ferriggi's two out double plating Omar Cuevas in the opening frame. Bentley evened the score with an unearned marker off Spartan starter Michael Gonzalez in the third, with Dante Padovani reaching on an error and scoring on a Sean Keady double.

In the 6th inning the Spartans would regain the lead. With two on and none out, Joe Boland reached on a throwing error, bringing in Ferriggi, though STAC was unable to capitalize further in that frame.

Bentely took advantage in the bottom half, knotting the score again on a Will Brennan RBI single. That would end the day for Gonzalez, who allowed just one earned run in six strong innings despite not getting the decision.

St. Thomas Aquinas would score the eventual winning run in unconventional fashion in the top of the 8th. Ferriggi's second double of the game started things off and after moving up on a grounder, he would trot home on a two-out balk.

Susana would provide with insurance in the ninth with a two-run, two out double, and Ferriggi would continue to put his emphatic stamp on the contest by working a scoreless 9th to earn his first save of the season.

STAC continues its Florida sojurn on Monday, March 10, with the second of three straight games against Bentley.
