Spartans Honor Wounded Warrior Project to Close Out Regular Season

The St. Thomas Aquinas College baseball team will continue its tradition of contributing to the Wounded Warrior Project in this weekend's home games against the University of Bridgeport. Donations will be accepted at Friday and Sunday's games at Provident Bank Park.

This weekend will mark the 5th annual Wounded Warrior Project weekend for the Spartans, with donations being collected during Friday's 3:30 pm game, and culminating with pre-game ceremonies before the 1:00 pm start as part of the day's festivities. Included will be the traditional wearing of camoflage-themed hats by both STAC and Bridgeport, and hats for both teams will be available for sale, with proceeds also benefiting WWP.

As part of those pre-game ceremonies on Sunday, St. Thomas Aquinas will honor not only Tony Gargan, father of current Spartan Nick Gargan and former PFC in the United States Marines, but also current Bridgeport pitcher/infielder Mike Minter, who served in Kuwait as a member of the United States Air Force.

Sunday will also be Senior Day, as STAC's athletics department pays tribute to seniors in their final home game. The Spartans are currently in a virtual tie for first place in the East Coast Conference (trailing Dowling on tiebreaker) and have already clinched a spot in the 2015 ECC Baseball Tournament, which begins on Thursday at Mitchel Park, hosted by Molloy College. The Spartans have won the past two conference titles, and the tourney champ receives an automatic bid to the NCAA Division II Baseball Tournament.

St. Thomas Aquinas continues to be a proud supporter of the Wounded Warrior Project, whose mission is, "To honor and empower wounded Warriors. To foster the most successful, well-adjusted generation of wounded service members in our nation's history. To raise awareness and enlist the public's aid for the needs of injured service members. To help injured service members aid and assist each other. To provide unique, direct programs and services to meet the needs of injured service members."
