Baseball team Drops Second Straight in 9-5 Loss to Bentley

The St. Thomas Aquinas College baseball team fell short in its second straight game to start the season, a 9-5 loss to Bentley University in Winter Park, Florida. Bentley pushed across four runs in the fourth and three more in the fifth to improve to 2-6 on the season.

STAC broke on top in the bottom of the first frame when Giovanni Dingcong hit a two run shot to left, bringing home Nick Gargan. STAC starter Michael Gonzalez was strong through three scoreless frames before being touched for four in the fourth and being knocked from the box in the fifth.

Stanley Susana brought the Spartans to within 8-4 in the bottom of the sixth with a two run double, bringing in Joseph Pena and Brandon Fischer. STAC drew closer in the bottom of the seventh on Fischer's RBI single, but it would not be enough. Fischer went 3-for-4 in the setback, while Susana and Pena had two hits apiece.

The Spartans contine their Florida trip on Monday night at Rollins College, and hitting the field for an 11:00 am start on Tuesday morning against Bentley University.
