STAC Baseball Rallies Over Bentley, 10-8, for Second Straight Triumph

The St. Thomas Aquinas College baseball team pushed across four runs in the seventh inning to take a 10-8 victory over Bentley University in Winter Park, Florida. Brandon Fischer and Joe Pena had three hits each in the contest as the Spartans improved to 2-2 while dropping Bentley to 2-7 overall.

Giovanni Dingcong continued his hot start with a sac fly to get the Spartans on top in the first, but Bentley answered in the bottom half off STAC starter Matt Petro. Stanley Susana's third-inning RBI single gave the Spartans the lead again, and a bases-loaded walk to John DeAngelis and a sac fly by Brandon Fischer later in the frame made the score 4-1.

Bentley plated a pair of runs each in the fourth and fifth innings to take a 5-4 lead, but STAC tied the game with one in the sixth before opening the lead in the seventh. DeAngelis, Fischer, Rich Cesca, and Joey Fusco all contributed RBI singles as the Spartans opened up a 9-5 gap.

After Bentley scored two more in their half of the seventh, Cesca's sac fly added an insurance run in the top of the ninth. The Falcons put the tying runs on board in the bottom of the ninth, but were not able to overcome the Spartans' 15 hit attack.

DeAngelis scored three times, Maurizio Devita earned his first collegiate win in relief, and Christian Santo picked up the save at St. Thomas Aquinas notched its first win in three tries against Bentley.

The Spartans play a twin-bill against Stonehill College starting at 10:00 am tomorrow, March 11, before closing out their Florida swing also against Stonehill, in a single game on Thursday.
