Spartans Fall in Florida Finale to Stonehill; End Trip With Split

The St. Thomas Aquinas College baseball team fell to Stonehill College in the final game of their annual Florida Trip. The Spartans head home with a 3-3-1 overall record while Stonehill improves to 10-4-1 after the teams went 1-1-1 in their three-game set.

Stonehill took the lead with a run in the top of the second but the Spartans answered quickly to tie the game on an RBI single by Rich Cesca in the bottom half. Starter Nick May was in control through four innings but three hits and an error led to a pair of Skyhawk runs in the fifth and they tacked on an unearned tally in the sixth to grab a 4-1 lead.

A Joe Pena RBI in the bottom of the sixth, and a run-scoring triple off the bat of Rich Baerga in the eighth would bring STAC to within one, but that was as close as they would get as Stonehill added an insurance marker in the ninth.

St. Thomas Aquinas sprayed out 12 hits on the day but were unable to get the big strikes when it counted, stranding 12 baserunners on the day as May fell to 0-1 with the loss.

Please note - this weekends scheduled games against St. Anselm will not be held at Provident Bank Park due to unplayable field conditions. At this writing, a determination of the status of those games has not been made.
