Spartans Blank Concordia, 7-0, for Third Straight Win

The St. Thomas Aquinas College baseball team cruised to a 7-0 non-conference victory at Concordia College, as Greg Dawber and Rich Cesca, Jr. had three hits each to lead the Spartans to their third straight win and 12th in their last 15 games, improving to 17-6 on the season. Concordia fell to its fourth straight setback and now stands at 5-15 overall.

Six STAC pitchers combined to toss the team's third shutout of the season, with Anthony Morris working just one scoreless frame before giving way to Chad Sinko. An unearned run in the visiting 2nd put the Spartans on top, and Joe Signore continued his torrid hitting with an RBI single in the 3rd, his ninth run batted in over the past three days.

Sinko allowed just two hits over four scoreless relief innings, and the Spartans opened some breathing room in the 6th when Nick Gargan homered, and Dawber capped the rally with a 2-run single to make the score 5-0.

Dawber added a solo homer in the 7th and Joe McGugan brought in another with a single to close out the scoring, while Maurizio Devita, Chris Pennell, Jose Peralta, and George Navadel combined to allow just one Clipper hit over the final four frames. Concordia's offense accounted for just five singles on the day - three over the final eight innings - and had only three runners advance as far as third base.

The Spartans return to action for a four-game East Coast Conference series against LIU Post this weekend. Saturday will feature a noon double-header in Brookville, while the dates, sites and times of STAC's scheduled home contests remain TBD. Please check the schedule for the latest updates.
