Streak Snapped at 4 as STAC Baseball Falls to Fairmont State, 6-3

The St. Thomas Aquinas College baseball team saw its four-game winning streak snapped in a 6-3 setback against Fairmont State University in Wilson, NC. The Spartans fell to 5-2 with the loss while Fairmont State improved to 5-0.

STAC jumped on top in the home 2nd when Michael Morgan's single brought in Rich Cesca, Jr. Fairmont State broke through with a pair of two run singles in both the 4th and 5th innings against Spartan starter Frankie Moscatiello to take a 4-1 lead. They tacked on an insurance run against Sam Vincenzo in the 6th, but STAC would have its chances in the late inning.

Giovanni Dingcong drew a bases-loaded walk in the 7th to make the gap 5-2, but the Spartans would strand the tying runs on base. One inning later, Tyler Patane also walked home a run to bring STAC within two, but with the bags still jammed and one down, Joseph Pena grounded into a 1-2-3 double play, ending STAC's final threat, as Fairmont State tacked on a run in the 9th.

Cesca, Michael Morgan, Nick Gargan and Joe Signore recorded two hits each for the Spartans, while Moscatiello took the loss to drop to 0-1.

The Spartans conclude their North Carolina trip on Sunday, taking on West Virginia State University in a 12:00 noon start. These teams squared off in the trip opener on Friday, with STAC taking a 4-1 decision. The Spartans will then be off until Saturday, March 12, when they begin a seven-game trip to Florida.
