The St. Thomas Aquinas College baseball team will begin its second trip to the NCAA Division II Baseball Championship on Sunday, May 28, against the University of California San Diego at 4:00 pm in Grand Prairie, TX.

STAC (42-15) is in the midst of its winningest season ever and the Spartans are making their second NCAA Championship appearance in their fifth straight NCAA Tournament season. In 2014, the Spartans were eliminated in two games, falling to Colorado Mesa (5-4 in 10 innings) and Minnesota-Mankato (6-1).

As usual, the eight Regional Champions are paired into two four-team brackets to start the double-elimination tourney, with remaining teams crossing over to play the other bracket after two games. The Spartans are in Bracket Two and will face the Tritons of the University of California San Diego (40-17), who fell to Chico State in the California Collegiate Athletic Association finals before sweeping all four games to win the West Regional.

UCSD starting pitcher Adrian Orozco was named the West Regional's Most Outstanding Player on the strength of a one-hit shutout over host Azusa Pacific in a 4-0 win on May 19. STAC's Giovanni Dingcong earned the same honor in the East Regional, with his three homers increasing his season total to 18. The Spartans also swept all four games in their region, outscoring opponents by an impressive 38-7 margin.

The Championship opens on Saturday with Bracket One as West Chester and North Georgia meet in Game 1 at 4:00, followed by Lindenwood facing Delta State in Game 2 at 8:00 (all times Eastern).

Bracket Two starts Sunday with the Spartans facing UCSD in Game 3 at 4:00 pm, followed by Game 4 between Quincy and Colorado Mesa at 8:00. The winner of the STAC-UCSD game will play in Tournament Game 8 at 8:00 pm on Tuesday against the winner of Quincy vs. Colorado Mesa. The loser of STAC's contest will play an elimination contest in Tournament Game 8 on Tuesday at 4:00 pm, against the Quincy-Colorado Mesa loser.
