STAC Baseball Drops Weekend Finale Against Seton Hill, 12-8

The St. Thomas Aquinas College baseball team fell to a 12-8 defeat against Seton Hill to close out their weekend in Thomasville, North Carolina. The Spartans dropped two of three in their weekend set to fall to 3-3 on the season, with Seton Hill improving to 3-2.

Anthony Shkrelja, Chris Ruiz and Greg Dawber all homered for the Spartans, with Ruiz hitting a three-run shot.

A pair of infield hits and an error staked Seton Hill to a 2-0 lead in the home first, but Ruiz' deep drive put the Spartans on top by one in the following frame. The Griffins knotted the score in the bottom of the 2nd, but Deven Del Priore tripled home a run in the top of the 3rd to put STAC back on top.

The struggle continued in the bottom half, with a three-run shot capping a 4-run SHU uprising, making the tally 7-4. Shkrelja's one-out homer and an RBI double by Mike Morgan drew the Spartans to within 7-6 in the top of the 5th, but a three-run answer in the bottom half proved to be decisive.

STAC closed the margin to 10-8 on Dawber's two run shot in the top of the 6th, but SHU's bullpen closed the door from there, as the Griffins added a pair of insurance runs. Chris Cepeda started and was tagged with the loss, falling to 1-1 on the season.

The Spartans are now off until their seven-game southern swing that begins on Friday, March 10, against Franklin Pierce at the USA National Baseball Complex in Cary, NC. STAC's home opener is slated for Saturday, March 18, with an 11:00 am double-header at Palisades Credit Union Park against St. Anselm.
