The St. Thomas Aquinas College baseball team dropped its East Coast Conference series finale to the University of Bridgeport, 7-2, at Harbor Yard. The Spartans captured three of the four weekend games and now stand at 24-9 overall and 10-2 in the ECC, with Bridgeport improving to 5-28, 2-10. STAC is now tied for second in the ECC standings with LIU Post, with Molloy atop the group with a 15-1 conference mark.

An error helped Bridgeport get on the board in the home third, as they scored on a double-steal for the second time in three games to take a 1-0 lead. Daren Grabowski's RBI single capped a two-run fourth, and Mark Komaromi drove in another in the fifth to stake the Purple Knights to a 4-0 lead. Tyler Patane got the Spartans on the board with a run-scoring single in the top of the sixth, but UB answered with three in the bottom half on Tom Rinaldi's bases-clearing double to open a 7-1 gap.

Tyler Patane scored on a wild pitch in the eighth, but it was far too little, to late for STAC, despite Nicholas Lucchese's three-hit day. Jason Salva started and took the loss, allowing two earned runs in five innings, while Matt Alicki earned his first victory of the year, improving to 1-6.

The Spartans are now off until next weekend's ECC showdown against rival Molloy, with games Friday and Sunday on Long Island wrapped around a Saturday double-header at Palisades Credit Union Park, with game time set for 12:00 noon.
