STAC Baseball Stumbles in 9-3 Loss to Franklin Pierce

The St. Thomas Aquinas College baseball team dropped its final game at the USA Baseball National Training Complex in Cary, NC, falling to Franklin Pierce by a 9-3 count. The Spartans closed out their weekend with a 3-2 record and now stand at 9-4 on the season, with FPU avenging Friday's loss to STAC to improve to 7-5-1.

As usual, Joseph Pena got the ball rolling for the Spartans with a leadoff single to start the game, eventually scoring on an error. The Ravens answered with two in the home 1st, tacked on another in the 4th, and added two in the 6th to open a 5-1 gap. STAC's offense continued to struggle and FPU broke the game open in the 7th, banging out five hits in a four-run uprising.

STAC attempted to rally in the 9th when Giovanni Dingcong doubled in a run and came around to score on a Cris Ruiz single, but that was as close as they were to come. Ruiz had two of his team's five hits as Anthony Matarrazo took the win for Franklin Pierce, with Angelo Baez starting and absorbing the loss for STAC.
