Spartan Baseball Alum Cepeda Joins High Point Rockers

St. Thomas Aquinas College Baseball Alum Chris Cepeda was signed on Saturday by the High Point Rockers of the Atlantic League of Professional Baseball.

The Rockers were searching for an additional arm that could be an immediate contributor and a steady presence on the mound and Cepeda, the Port Jefferson Station, NY native, was asked to fill that role for first-year manager Jamie Keefe.

Cepeda, appeared in 12 games for St. Thomas Aquinas College in 2019, starting all of those contests, posting a 5-6 record and a 4.02 ERA in 85.0 innings pitched. Chris also recorded 4 complete games, while striking out 93 opposing batters and only walking 14 others. 

Chris Cepeda was named an ECC Second Team All-Conference selection for his work on the mound for the Spartans this past season.

In his three year career as a Spartan after transferring from Dowling College in the summer of 2016, Cepeda appeared in 38 games for STAC, starting all of those contests, posting an outstanding 20-12 record with a 3.29 ERA in 246.2 innings pitched. Chris also had 10 complete games, while striking out 222 opposing batters and only walking 47, while helping his fellow Spartan teammates capture two ECC Regular Season (2017, 2018) and one Tournament Championship (2018). He was also a member of two NCAA East Regional Tournament appearances (2017, 2018), one of which the college's second East Region Championship (2017), and assisted in leading St. Thomas Aquinas to the 2017 Division II World Series in Grand Prairie, Texas.

Cepeda's awards and honors were numerous during his 3-year tenure with the Spartans, as he was named an ECC First Team All-Conference selection in 2017 and 2019 to go along with his Second Team honors this season. Chris was also named the ECC Pitcher of the week on three seperate occasions during his time in Sparkill (April 30, 2018, May 9, 2017 & March 13, 2017). In his lone year with Dowling College as a freshman in 2016, Cepeda was named the ECC Rookie of the Year.

Cepeda and the first-year Atlantic League expansion team High Point Rockers travel to Bridgewater, NJ for a three-game series with the Somerset Patriots May 14-16.
