The St. Thomas Aquinas College baseball team stayed hot with a 13-12 victory over Bloomsburg University in Colonial Heights, VA. The Spartans have been red-hot on their current trip, winning 6-of-7 to date, improving to 6-7 overall on the season, and Bloomsburg had its six-game winning streak snapped in falling to 8-2. Originally scheduled for a double-header, the game was switched to a single contest with the teams playing a double on Saturday, the final contests for the Spartans on their current successful journey.

After just two innings it appeared to be a long day ahead for the Spartans, as Bloomsburg pushed across a pair in the top of the first and a costly error led to five unearned runs in a 6-run second to open an early 8-0 chasm. Gianni Sinatore capped the rally with a three-run homer. STAC had just one hit through three innings, but a pair of errors opened the door for them to get back into the game in the fourth.

Michael Morgan was hit by a pitch to lead off and Brian Donnelly doubled. Dylan Klock reached on an error, bringing the first run home. Tyler Patane reached on yet another error, bringing in two runs, and the Spartans proceeded to bat around. Anthony Maisano scored another with a sac fly and Angelo Baez and Andrew Jemison delivered RBI doubles as the deficit was trimmed to 8-6.

That score held into the home seventh, when St. Thomas Aquinas stormed ahead with a seven-run rally. Klock led off with a single and Cris Ruiz walked to put the tying runs on base. Patane, who was the starter and unlucky victim of the early unearned runs, got himself off the hook with a three-run homer, putting STAC on top for the first time. They weren't done yet as Jemison singled in another and Morgan followed with a two run blast to make the tally 13-8.

Those insurance runs proved valuable as the Huskies rallied for four in the eighth but Reyan Mustafoski came out of the pen to record the last out with the go-ahead runs on base and tossed a scoreless ninth for the save. Jemison and Morgan had three hits each for STAC, with Allegretti picking up the relief win.

The Spartans wrap up their trip with a twin-bill against Bloomsburg on Saturday. From there they will return north, visiting Felician University on Tuesday, March 19, before playing their home opener against the College of Saint Rose on Thursday at 3:30 pm at Palisades Credit Union Park.
