Late Runs Push Pace Past STAC, 4-2

Pleasantville, N.Y. - Returning to New York following an eight-game Spring Break road trip in Florida, the St. Thomas Aquinas College Baseball team fell to Pace University, 4-2 on Saturday afternoon at Peter X. Finnerty Field. STAC falls to 5-12 on the year, while Pace improves to 6-5.

How it Happened

  • Pace got out to a 1-0 lead in the bottom of the first inning on a one-out RBI single by Matt Almonte, scoring Matthew Rinaldi.
  • An Andrew Jemison 2-RBI double in the fifth, gave the Spartans a 2-1 lead, as Eric Volpi and Christopher Conti made their way to plate.
  • The Setters tied the game at two in the bottom of the frame, courtesy of a two-out RBI single by Nicholas Montagna, bringing home teammate Nate Carminucci.
  • In the seventh inning, Pace broke the stalemate via Nicholas Montagna's RBI single with two on and one out, scoring Mitch McCabe to give the hosts a 3-2 lead.
  • Pace picked up an insurance run in the very next inning, as Luke Jacobi clubbed an RBI double, allowing Matt Rinaldi to cross home plate for a 4-2 advantage.
  • Looking for a rally in the top of the ninth, the Spartans were sent down in order via a trio of ground outs to end the game, giving the Setters the win.
