Six-Run Seventh Inning Propels STAC Baseball to 11-7 Triumph over Jefferson

Pomona, N.Y. - The St. Thomas Aquinas College Baseball team used a six-run seventh inning to rally back and defeat Jefferson University, 11-7 on Tuesday afternoon at Clover Stadium.

STAC improves to 13-15 on the season, while Jefferson drops to 17-16 overall.

How it Happened

  • Jefferson opened the scoring in the second inning, plating three runs on an RBI double to left field and a 2-RBI single to center field.
  • An Andrew Jemison two run homer to right field in the third, got the Spartans within one, 3-2.
  • The Rams picked up a run in the fifth and seventh innings on RBI singles to make it 5-2.
  • STAC tied the game and took the lead in the bottom of the seventh inning. First, Kyle Lagrutta's 2-RBI single narrowed the score to 5-4. Next, Nick O'Connor drew a bases loaded walk to tie the game at five. Then Andrew Jemison was hit by a pitch with the bases still juiced to force in a run and give the Spartans its first lead of the day at 6-5. Matthew Johnson's RBI sacrifice fly and a wild pitch which brought Nick O'Connor to the plate, increased the maroon and gold lead to 8-5.
  • The visitors from the City of Brotherly Love were able to get two runs back in the eighth to cut their deficit to 8-7.
  • Another bases loaded walk, this time to David Potenza in the bottom of the frame, gave STAC a run back to make it 9-7.
  • Then Nick O'Connor's 2-RBI single increased the Spartan lead to four at 11-7, which would wind up being the final outcome.
