Palm Beach, Fla. - The St. Thomas Aquinas College Baseball kicked off its seven game Florida Spring Break tour, falling to Stonehill College 7-3 on Thursday night at the Santaluches Sports Complex.
STAC drops to 3-8, while Stonehill improves to 5-7 on the season.
How it Happened
- A scoreless pitcher's duel for the first four and a half innings, St. Thomas Aquinas would break the stalemate in the bottom of the fifth.
- Gregory DiGiaro's bases loaded two RBI single, brought home teammates Andrew Jemison and Sean Lynch to make it 2-0 in favor of the Spartans.
- STAC starter Aaron Dona was spectacular in his third start of the season, hurling seven shutout innings, while only allowing a hit and walking two. He also sent down 12 Skyhawks batters via strikeout.
- However, Stonehill rallied for seven runs in the eighth off of the bullpen, as Conor Kiely fielder's choice with the bases loaded and a subsequent error, opened the door for the Skyhawks first run of the evening.
- A Matt Farragher single, Noah Lucier triple and Blaine Lidsky double pushed five more runs across home plate to extend the Stonehill lead to 6-2.
- The final run for the Skyhawks came courtesy of a double steal by Blaine Lidsky and Trey Ciulla-Hall, with Ciulla-Hall coming home to make it 7-2.
- St. Thomas Aquinas attempted to rally late, as Matthew Johnson stroked an two-out RBI double, bringing C.J. Cumbo around to score, closing the deficit to four at 7-3.
- In the ninth, the Spartans went down one, two, three on a strikeout, pop-up and ground out, giving Stonehill the four-run victory.
