Late-Inning Home Run Dooms STAC in 3-2 Loss to Bloomsburg

Bloomsburg, Pa. - An eighth inning home run by Bloomsburg University's Jeremy Stine broke a 2-2 tie and sent the St. Thomas Aquinas College Baseball team to its third straight setback on Tuesday afternoon by the score of 3-2 at Danny Litwhiler Field.

STAC slips back to the .500 mark at 9-9 on the season, while improves to 4-12 on the year.

HOW IT HAPPENED:

Top 4th Inning - Michael Zeis homered to centerfield, also scoring Gregory DiGiaro. 2-0 STAC

Btm 6th Inning - Owen Wilhide homered to left-centerfield. 2-1 STAC

Btm 7th Inning - Jonathan Labarbera singled to left-centerfield, scoring Brady Ebbert. GAME TIED 2-2

Btm 8th Inning - Jeremy Stine homered to left field. 3-2 BLOOM

STAC PERFORMANCES:

  • Joseph Scamardella went 2-for-4 and drew a walk on the afternoon
  • Michael Zeis' only hit in three at-bats was a home run, while he recorded 2 RBI and scored a run. He took first base via a walk as well.
  • Gregory DiGiaro stroked a double in a 1-for-1 day, while also making his way on base via three walks.
  • STAC also received a hit from C.J. Cumbo (1-for-5).
  • Andrew Speranza got the start for STAC on Tuesday and pitched five innings, just two hits and no runs, while walking four and fanning eight.
  • John Dezago and Will Kindl saw time on the mound out of the bullpen for the Spartans and combined to throw 1.2 innings, while allowing three hits and two runs with three walks and a strikeout.
  • Closer Kyle Rogers came on to close out the game and was touched up for the game-winning hit and run (home run) in 1.1 innings pitched, while also K-ing two Huskies batters. Rogers was charged with the loss and slips to 0-1 on the season.
