STAC Baseball Falls to Pace 4-1

Pleasantville, N.Y. - The St. Thomas Aquinas College Baseball team saw its recent struggles continue on Tuesday at Peter X. Finnerty Field, as the Spartans dropped their seventh straight contest, a 4-1 defeat at the hands of Pace University.

STAC falls to 9-13 on the season, while Pace improves to 12-7 on the year.

HOW IT HAPPENED:

Btm 2nd Inning - Josh Miller homered to left field. 1-0 PACE

Btm 2nd Inning - Brayden Sweppenhiser singled to left field, advancing Luke Rivara advanced to third base, while Dylan Koch scored. 2-0 PACE

Top 5th Inning - C.J. Cumbo singled to centerfield, bringing Brian Klumpp to the plate. 2-1 PACE

Btm 6th Inning - Luke Rivara singled through the right side, moving Dylan Koch to third base and scoring Hunter Goldstein. 3-1 PACE

Btm 8th Inning - Dylan Koch singled to centerfield, advancing Josh Miller to second base and allowing Hunter Goldstein to make his way home. 4-1 PACE

STAC PERFORMANCES:

  • C.J. Cumbo went 2-for-4 and drove in a run on the afternoon
  • Brian Klumpp scored a run in a 1-for-4 day at the plate.
  • STAC also received a hits from Joseph Scamardella (1-for-4), Kyle DeCresce (1-for-4), Chris Ewing (1-for-4), Jordan Babbo (1-for-2, Walk) and Tyler Haydt (1-for-1).
  • Andrew Speranza (0-2) got the start for STAC on Tuesday and lasted just two innings, allowing two runs on five hits, while walking two and striking out three. 
  • Cole Lindquist and Kyle Rogers saw time on the mound out of the bullpen for the Spartans and combined to throw six innings, while allowing six hits and two runs with two walks and five strikeouts.

FACTS & FIGURES:

  • The Spartans totaled 1 run on 8 hits, with no errors, while Pace earned 4 runs on 11 hits, with no errors.
  • STAC pitchers struck out 8 Setters batters, while issuing 4 walks on the day.
  • St. Thomas Aquinas stranded 7 runners on base, as Pace left 10 on in the non-conference contest.

UP NEXT:

STAC will visit Molloy University on Saturday, March 30 for an ECC twin bill that gets underway at 12:00 p.m. at the Mitchel Field Athletic Complex in Uniondale, N.Y.

SCHEDULE UPDATE:

Due to the forecast of rain, Thursday's (March 28) home opener with Molloy at Clover Stadium has been moved to Monday, April 1 and now becomes part of a doubleheader, with first pitch of game one scheduled for 12:00 p.m. in Pomona, N.Y.
